rate" is a percentage equal to the proportion of that school's students who attended
the school, took out federal loans, and later went into default (i.e., did not pay). The
default rate is monitored closely and, if it is too high, may result in restrictions on
borrowing under federal programs at that school. You should particularly investigate the
programs if the school's default rate is more than 15% for the Federal Perkins Loan
Program or more than 25% for the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFEL).
