Check Out Your Broker
Financial Tip of the Week by Deloitte & Touche OnLine

February 15, 1999

The NASD's regulation program can help you find violations or complain.

See our archive of previous tips on your money, your taxes and your financial plan.

Investors interested in finding out background information about their brokers can do so through the National Association of Securities Dealers Regulation's (NASDR) public disclosure program. Investors can call the public disclosure hotline at (800) 289-9999 or visit the NASDR's web site at www.nasdr.com. In addition to broker information, the Web address allows investors to:

  • File a complaint if they believe they have been victims of broker/dealer misconduct.

  • Learn about arbitration and mediation services.

  • Take advantage of educational tools including financial calculators to help investors tabulate how much they'll need to retire or send a child to college.

  • Review educational materials regarding investing, investment options and goal setting.
