DRIP Investing Online
Financial Tip of the Week by Deloitte & Touche OnLine

October 4, 1999

An easy way to invest just got easier by going online.

See our archive of previous tips on your money, your taxes and your financial plan.

More than 1,000 companies allow their shareholders to buy stock directly from the companies, without paying the usual stockbroker commissions. Dividends are then reinvested in the stock, hence the name "dividend reinvestment plan," or DRIP for short.

The two web sites for the MoneyPaper newsletter posts a list of public companies who allow registration online for their DRIPs. Check out http://www.moneypaper.com or http://www.directivesting.com for more information.

Also offering information on DRIPs is the DRIP Investor newsletter, which has a web site at http://www.dripinvestor.com. Visit the Information Center and the "Nuts and Bolts" page for some important basics. These plans aren't free, but many offer an inexpensive way to invest in stocks.
