New Push For Savings Financial Tip of the Week by Deloitte & Touche OnLine July 31, 2000 |
Saving should be as automatic as buckling a seat belt. |
Aiming to improve consumers' knowledge of financial planning matters, the U.S. Treasury Department has led a coalition of organizations to provide education on a variety of money topics. It's called the National Partners for Financial Empowerment, and it joins consumer and community organizations, corporations, business organizations, federal, state and local governments and non-profit groups. The key objective of NPFE is to bolster and support the work of its participating organizations. The group's web site has information on a variety of topics, including money management, saving, investing and credit in United States today. Treasury Secretary Lawrence K. Summers plans an ad campaign as pervasive as those the government ran to educate the public on wearing seatbelts. Ads will begin running in August.
